Lima

Lima

Lima in a necessary stop as you enter Peru. Our first experienceOn our way back from Machu Picchu we stayed again in Lima for a few nights. Though some of our party was being hospitalizes for e coli, we tried to make the most of our brief stay in this vibrant and beautiful global city.

EXPERIENCE

Lima was great, though one of my travel partners experienced mostly just the hospital while here.  In between shifts of caring for him, the rest of us explored while we were feeling healthy enough. We did lots of shopping and food experiencing at the impressive Central Food Market.

An Incan historic sight right with the city is Huaca Pullanca. This ruin is worth visiting but somewhat muted after just spending days in Machu Picchu. This pyramid type structure made for a nice afternoon, and the tour helped provide more cultural context to some of the things we had even seen at Machu Picchu. Other favorite stops were the Miraflores art market and enjoying the boardwalk along the sea front.

STAY

We stayed at a beautiful hostel in Miraflores on our way back through Lima. It is called Hostal El Patio. This place has stunning flowers and balconies, was very clean, and close to many of the places we wished to walk and explore. The staff was very gracious despite our sick state.

EAT

Lima is well known for ceviche. Because of the e coli, we toned down our culinary adventuring just a tad, and stuck to many of the fresh fruits and vegetables. Avocado salads and fresh tropical fruits were abundant and topped our list.
