Though the definitions of luck and blessed evolve with the more you see, economic advantage is a very real thing. It is impossible to visit certain places and not leave affected by the disparity in our world. I have a strange attraction for visiting and working in developing markets, that centers around my fascination with how happy the people seem. It calls into question so much of what we think we know, its somehow irresistible.

This exposure insists on growing empathy for others, but brings an inevitable twinge of guilt. I believe the feeling of guilt should demand action. I have personally struggled with how to make an impact on some of the places I have been. While it is not much, I have found an organization that is in line with my personal passion for entrepreneurship and enables a “teach a man to fish” philosophy.  I think it is pretty fantastic –Kiva.

KIVA

This micro-lending organization empowers global small business owners and students via micro-loans from you. We are a non-profit organization with a mission to connect people through lending to alleviate poverty. Leveraging the internet and a worldwide network of micro-finance institutions, Kiva lets individuals lend as little as $25 to help create opportunity around the world. Follow the story of a Kiva loan through Pedro, a farmer who gets a loan through Kiva.org and transforms his business.: http://vimeo.com/16991128
